The Bracknell Bees are delighted to announce their first addition to their 2017/18 National Ice Hockey League South Division line-up.
29 year old Slough born forward Shaun Thompson has agreed to a return to the Bees for the forthcoming campaign, having re-joined the club part way through last season from the Basingstoke Bison.
Shaun is no stranger to The Hive having previously been with the Berkshire side from 2005-2008 and 2011-2014 during which time he won the EPIHL in 2005-06 and the EPIHL League & Playoff double in 2006-07.
Additionally whilst part of the Bees line-up the forward also picked up a Division 2 World Junior Championship Gold Medal with Team GB U20’s in 2005-06 and a Bronze Medal the following year in Division 1.
Further silverware came Thompson’s way in 2010-11 with the Slough Jets as they won the EPIHL Cup and only two seasons ago Shaun was part of the EPIHL League Champion Basingstoke Bison side.
Shaun originally started his career in Slough with the Spitfires (U16), Comets (U19) and Harrier Hawks (EPIHL) before signing a two way contract with the Basingstoke Bison, who were in the Elite League at the time. In 2005-06 Shaun moved along the M4 to join the Bees and split his time between the Bees and the Elite League Basingstoke Bison and the Bees. The following year the forward signed full time with the Bees where he remained for two seasons before a move back to the Bison for another Elite league season. A move to the Hull Stingrays followed but a mid-season move back to the Bison saw Thompson back in the EPIHL. A year at his home town Slough Jets in 2010-11 came before his return to the Bees for three seasons.
A move north to the Manchester Phoenix for a season in 2014-15 was followed a year later with a move back to the Basingstoke Bison for two seasons before re-joining the Bees part way through last season and going on to pick up the Bees Supporters Club Best Forward of the Year award for 2016/17.
Indeed it was the third time Shaun picked up that particular award having also collected the award in 2012/2013 & 2013/14. Thompson has also been voted the Best British Player by the Bees fans in 2006/07, 2011/12 and again in 2012/13 as well as the Player of the Year award also in 2011/12.
Scott Spearing, Bracknell Bees player/coach said of the signing:
“It’s great to have Shaun back for the new season. His experience is invaluable moving forward with this fresh approach to hockey in Bracknell. He is a perfect fit for the team – has a great work ethic and I look forward to working with him in the forthcoming season.“
As in previous seasons we are happy to announce that Shaun’s jerseys will be available as part of our 2017-18 Own & Loan Jersey scheme.
The Light or Dark jerseys are both available and complete details of the scheme and the jersey designs will be released soon but if you are interested in participating in this great opportunity then please email us at firstname.lastname@example.org with the details of the jersey you are interested in.
All shirts are sold on a first come, first served basis and the process is that you “own” the jersey and “loan” it back to the player for the season to wear. The jersey will then be presented to the owner at the end of the season at a time and date to be arranged.
