Popular, three time defenceman of the season returns to Bees

The Bracknell Bees are delighted to announce the return, after a season away in Germany, of popular non-EIHA trained defenceman Jan Bendik to the club.

Having spent his early and formative hockey years in Slovakia and the Czech Republic with teams such as HK SKP Propad, HC Dukla Senica, HC Presov, HC Vrchlabi, HC Benatky nad Jizerou, HC Hradec Kralove and HK Dukla Trencin Bendik made the move to the UK and indeed to the Bracknell Bees at the start of the 2012-13 EPIHL season.

Four seasons, including 2015-16 as Alternate Captain, followed in which he iced in a little over 200 games in the Black, White and Gold of the Bees.  His hard working, gritty style earned the blue-liner rave reviews and he quickly established himself as a fan favourite at The Hive.   Picking up thirty-one goals and ninety-two assists in those games showed his ability to act as a play maker when needed and also an ability to find the net when required.

In his debut season with the Bees in the EPIHL Jan earned himself both the, fan voted, Bracknell Bees Supporters Club Player of the Season award and Defenceman of the Season award.  He would go on to win the Defenceman of the Year award again in 2013-14 and 2015-16, before departing the Bees at the end of the 2015-16 season for year with EV Landshut in Germany last time out.

Bracknell Bees player/coach Scott Spearing said on the return of the popular defenceman:
“I’m over the moon to welcome Janny back to Bracknell. His ability to move the puck, matched with his strength and experience in the defensive zone is an incredible start to our defensive core. He will have a huge influence on the young guys on the team and will help to develop our young British talent.“

As in previous seasons we are happy to announce that Jan’s jerseys will be available as part of our 2017-18 Own & Loan Jersey scheme.

The Light or Dark jerseys are both available and complete details of the scheme and the jersey designs will be released soon but if you are interested in participating in this great opportunity then please email us at beesownandloan@gmail.com with the details of the jersey you are interested in.

All shirts are sold on a first come, first served basis and the process is that you “own” the jersey and “loan” it back to the player for the season to wear. The jersey will then be presented to the owner at the end of the season at a time and date to be arranged.
