The Bracknell Bees are pleased to announce the addition of 17 year old Swindon born defenceman Jack Hayes as a development member of the 2016/17 English Premier Ice Hockey League squad.
Jack was originally a product of the Swindon ice hockey junior system having progressed into the Under 16’s Leopards and Lynx in the 2010/11 season. He remained with the Swindon club through the Under 18’s Cougars and Tigers before a move along the M4 to Slough as part of the Jets Under 18’s squad. Whilst with Slough Hayes was part of the South East Under 17’s squad in that year’s nationals.
Last season a further move along the M4 to Bracknell saw Jack as part of the Under 18’s Drones blue line, where in twenty games he notched one goal and fifteen assists and was the Drones defenceman of the season. He also stepping up to ENIHL level with the Hornets for three games before the young defenceman also made his debut in the English Premier League for the Bees as part of the squad that travelled to Hull to face the Pirates on a Friday night last March.
Bees Player Coach Lukas Smital said of the latest addition to the Bees line-up:
“Jack is a British defensive player for the future that I am happy to have added to this year’s squad. He still has developing to do but I believe that being part of the Bees squad and training & travelling regularly with the team will benefit him greatly and put him in a good position to earn and take his chance with us this season.“
Smital went on to add:
“Jack has made his own choice to join our squad as a development player, sacrificing potential ice time elsewhere in favour of the chance to develop his game with us here at the Bees, and I am willing to work with him to progress his game in an effort to enable him to earn ice time as this season progresses.”
