Born in the Slovenian capital of Ljubljana Basič began his senior career with his home town side of HK Olimpija Ljubljana in 2005/06 at both Under 20’s and senior level. Two further seasons with the club followed and in 2006/07 Luca was selected to the Slovenian U18’s squad for the World Junior Championships and won a Silver medal in Division 1A in that tournament.

A year in Sweden icing for Mora IK and Botkyrka HC followed in 2008/09 and that season Luca was also selected for the Slovenian U20’s squad for the World Junior Championships.
A return to his home town club for two more seasons followed, this time in the Slohokej Liga, and saw the forward net 50 goals and 51 assists in 63 games and lead the league in goal scoring in the 2010/11 season with 32 goals. A move to France for two seasons for the Amiens club saw Luca pick up another 17 goals and 27 assists and whilst with the French side Basič was selected for the Slovenian senior national side as part of both the World Cup and Olympic Qualifiers squads.
Kazakhstan was the next port of call for Luca when he joined HK Astana for a season picking up 9 goals and eight assists in 35 games for the club. In 2014/15 he returned to France, this time for Neuilly-sur-Marne before last season splitting his time HC Nove Zamky and HK Michalovce in the Slovakian leagues with another 12 goals and 17 assists to his name.
Bees Head Coach Lukas Smital said of the addition of Luka Basič to the Bees squad for the upcoming campaign:
“Luka is talented player with good offensive skills that I am very pleased to have been able to secure the signature of for this season. He is strong in front of the net, useful on special teams and has a great deal of experience for someone of his age for all over Europe as well as National teams. On a personal level is a good down to earth guy that I am looking forward to working with in the Black,
White and Gold of the Bees.”
